ART OF BREAKIN - HANIFA 'BUBBLES' HUDSON

Wanna get up close and personal with the UK's first recognised B-Girl? Then you wanna get yourself some Art Breakin fun! The lovely folk at Wolverhampton Art Gallery have enabled Art Breaker to happen so get involved in the workshops and you may just beable to then show off your skills at a big performance. DJ Cro is on the decks topping off what will be an exceptional day for all.

A breakdancing performance by a group of young people from Wolverhampton is set to be showcased on Saturday 26 July from 1pm to 4.30pm at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. Following three workshops with former B-Girl, Hanifa Hudson, the group have been perfecting their breakdancing moves, and will perform to music played by a DJ inside the gallery.

The group will perform ?ArtBreaker?, a new art form invented by Hanifa, which involves combining paint, music and street dance by recording the breakdancing moves through the application of paint onto canvas, using hands and feet instead of brushes.

Hanifa was the UK?s first female breaker and a member of the famous Wolverhampton-based B Boys crew, who starred in the seminal Hip Hop film Electro Rock at the London Hippodrome in 1985. As part of the ?ArtBreaker? event Hanifa will be visiting Wolverhampton Art Gallery on Monday 21 July between 2pm ? 5pm to chat with visitors about her life and inspiring career.

To tie in with the events a photographic exhibition, ?Zulu Dawn? will be on display from 21 July ? 9 August. Featuring classic photographs and archive film footage, capturing some of the major names on the scene and well-known local innovators, compiled by Hip Hop entrepreneur Martin Jones.
